Peruvian Mirey Yonemura today became a new Japanese Muaythai National Champion by the WMC (World Council of Muaythai) by defeating by unanimous, and unteasing decision, Japan's Nana Okuwaki.

The fight, agreed to five rounds, took place at the full coliseum at the Humamax Pavilion of Shinjuku Face in Tokyo and was part of an afternoon in which two other Japanese national titles and a world championship were contested.

"From the first round I felt I could win. In the second round I knew there was a level difference between Me and Okuwaki and in the third I went with everything," Mirey told Super Tokyo Radio.

"At no point did I feel danger in his blows and in the fifth round I reached his face with my knee. I think I broke his nose," the Peruvian said.

Mirey claimed that he climbed into the Shinjuku Face ring "very quiet" and that today he was able to show the fruits of all the training he has had to get the WMC Japan champion belt in the 45 kg category.

This is Japan's second national title to be won to date by Peru. Last year he won the MuayThai JNET League National Championship.

Mirey's goal is to tempt the world title, but first he must win another major national tournament, the MuayThau Open Japan, which will be played this year to be confirmed.

"I want to thank my family, my coach Hideo Saito, my sponsors and everyone who is helping me along this path," Mirey said. (Super Tokyo Radio)
